Bakhtu Chaos
The sparkling universe of Thierry Van Roy, musician, multifaceted artist.
Thierry Van Roy is a composer, arranger & producer, director of radio dramas and documentaries, sound engineer, dilettante outsider-artmaker, photo-manipulator, compulsive traveller and contemplative lumberjack.
Thierry Van Roy is notably producer/arranger of several albums on Realworld records (Peter Gabriel) and various world music albums. He invented the concept of “music-fiction”, a kind of musical uchrony, by creating music that could have existed if history had taken a different course (see “The Black Slavics“, “Tchekala“). His latest works, born of travels in Siberia and Mexico, are “Taiga Maya” with Melanie Gabriel (12 tracks album, Clips & short story), and “Sibérie noire” (Maelström éditions). He has also directed numerous radio documentaries on music, on four continents, and some radio dramas (France Inter, RTBF).
Film music : “Au-delà de Gibraltar” (co-composer & arranger). Numerous compositions for film music, animation films, etc.
Thierry Van Roy works as artistic director for the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation (IYMF), in the framework of European projects and multicultural concerts. He leads artist residencies on collective creation.
His latest work : “Autorité orale“, a 14-track album in collaboration with the slammer microMEGA le Verbivore.
Decryption.
Bakhtu Chaos – back to chaos – advocates the necessary return to chaos, a term which in its original meaning means emptiness, void. In terms of creative act, order no longer offers any possibility, whereas chaos, when nothing is yet ordered, opens the field of creation to the infinite.
Bakhtu Chaos is an entity : it is Thierry Van Roy’s enlarged and interconnected “self”, a relay antenna of the noosphere (headquaters of all human thoughts and emotions since the appearance of humanity – Theilhard de Chardin). His creative work finds its source through the human & non-human encounters, and in the permanent interconnections and sharings of his existence. Each work is in essence a co-creation.
His work is deeply connected to Taoist thinking : “A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.” — Lao Tzu. The same applies to the creative process.
